Today I visited Rikugien Gardens in Komagome. Here is one of 9 metropolitan gardens. In addition, it is so famous because of the most historical garden among them. And you can feel the typical or polite atmosphere of Edo era because it was built by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu who had been an attendant of the shogunate of Tokugawa Yeyasu 300 years ago. I visited here now to enjoy full-bloomed ‘Shidaresakura’ which is a symbol of Rikugien Gardens in April.
This is a map of the gardens. I recommend you to enter from the main entrance when you enter the gardens. I entered from Somei-mon (gate) close to the station and then had to be on the long line. The gardens are not so wide and only about 350 m from Somei-mon (gate) to the main entrance.
I found Gide Maps for English, Chinese, Korean, and French near the place where I bought a ticket. Foreign tourists can feel easy with them.
I can look down like this photo above from the highest point in the gardens. You can see magnificent Japanese gardens where you can’t take it a metropolitan.
There are many places to eat snacks like this photo above in the gardens. You can of course eat Japanese sweets such as oshiruko or dango.
And finally I reached the spot of ‘Shidaresakura’ which is a symbol of Rikugien Gardens. As I’d heard, they were the biggest cherry blossoms as big as I’ve ever seen.
It also seems to be fun to buy some Japanese sweets and eat them while watching cherry blossoms.
What do you think about Rikugien Gardens? Here is a nice spot for the tourists who are not satisfied with Ueno or Asakusa areas because Komagome station is located in only about 10 mins. walk place from Ueno station on Yamanote Line. Today, I introduced the gardens in spring; moreover, you can enjoy the different figures every season. Especially the red leaves of autumn here are well-known in Japan so that you can enjoy the different and colorful gardens from in spring. Why do you visit a traditional Japanese garden “Rikugien Gardens”and feel and touch Japanese four seasons?
